Solar Moonshot Program Grantee

St. John's Episcopal Church
“In 2003, St. John's Episcopal Church installed a 2.4 kW Solar PV system as part of a community pilot project. Since then, we have been working to build out our school wing's roof with complete solar coverage. Working with Resonant Energy and Boston Solar, and with financial help from Solar Moonshot and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, we have achieved that goal. After many delays due to the Covid pandemic, we were finally able to put our additional 18 kW capacity system online in May of 2021, and have generated over 11 MWhr of solar power in seven months, a reduction of 9 tons of CO2 emissions. The additional generation capacity not only meets the electric needs for our church and rectory, but will also allow us to share extra generation with a sister church located in the city of Boston. Longer term, we are looking to use the excess generation to help electrify our heating, and further reduce our carbon footprint.”
