‍About Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center (the event beneficiary)

‍Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in National City. They have a mission to inspire youth and adults to be healthy and active citizens through organic gardening, environmental stewardship and nutrition education. Olivewood Gardens educates children, adults, and families through healthy cooking, environmental education and leadership development. 

‍About the Clean Energy Resilience Project for Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center

‍The Olivewood Gardens Clean Energy Resilience Project includes a 16.4kW solar and 35kWh storage system and a smart heat pump.  The project has funding from San Diego Community Power in partnership with the San Diego Foundation and Calpine Energy, BQuest Foundation and Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation. This project also includes a series of clean energy workshops, which will provide clean energy education and workforce development opportunities to the public, particularly the youth, focused on targeting Communities of Concern. The system will produce clean energy that reduces energy consumption and electricity bills while providing backup power, allowing Olivewood Gardens to always continue their important work for the community. The battery will be scheduled to discharge when the electric utility provider charges the most for energy, helping Olivewood Gardens avoid the highest cost of energy and allowing more solar to be utilized, reducing dirty energy taken from the grid, and providing a reliable alternative to centralized power. The project will be installed by IBEW Local 569 contractor Aloha Solar Power.
